Miss Sunshine, the Themesong of NY400, celebrating the shared history and friendship between the USA and the Netherlands, was composed by Symbol Musics singer and composer Jan David, NY citys sense of freedom, energy and jubilation are at the heart of the songs theme - encapsulating the spirit of a city that never sleeps.
Central Park forms the DNA of the melody, like a walk in the park.

Four hundred years ago, Dutch pioneers sailed to the shores of what is now called New York City.
Some 167 years later, in 1776, the Dutch were the first to salute the flag of the United States of America. NY400 celebrates the history and friendship established over the last four centuries.
A friendship anchored in sharing similar values and a belief in a bright future, representing the spirit of those Dutch-American pioneers and its impact for the centuries to come.
The NY400 celebrations will entail festivals, events and other cultural activities - organized in co-operation with the City of New York.

Theme song Miss Sunshine celebrates 400 years friendship with US
Singer-songwriter Jan David has composed Miss Sunshine, a special theme song to celebrate four hundred years of friendship between the Netherlands and the US. The song, which also pays tribute to New York, is available on iTunes from 13 July.
Four hundred years ago a Dutch ship on a voyage of discovery dropped anchor near Manhattan. The passengers established the colony of New Amsterdam, which would later become New York. NY400, a project launched by the Dutch Government, is organising a whole range of events this year to celebrate our shared history, and the influence of the Netherlands on New York and the US. The theme song Miss Sunshine brings music to the celebrations. The Minister for European Affairs, Frans Timmermans, who is coordinating NY400 says, Its wonderful that music is being used to bring us together. Miss Sunshine was inspired by New York a city with which we share not just four hundred years of history, but also a commitment to freedom, tolerance and equal opportunities.'
Performances
Jan David will sing Miss Sunshine at various NY400 events. On 12 July, he performed at the Dutch American football final in Rotterdam, the NY400 Tulip Bowl. He presented the first copy of the Miss Sunshine CD to the American Consul General to the Netherlands. From 8 to 13 September, when the Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima are in New York, he will be performing at New Amsterdam Village in Bowling Green Park, NYC. A sensational programme of events has been planned.
The artists
Jan David, who has written songs for a number of Dutch singers, including Guus Meeuwis, recorded Miss Sunshine in the Arnold Muhren studio in Volendam. Tom Bakkers composed a special arrangement for string instruments, and many other experienced and well-known musicians contributed. They include Ron Dijkman, Rob Winter and the string section of the Metropole Orchestra.
Symbol Music
The Symbol Music label approached NY400 about producing the song, which has been released in two versions: Miss Sunshine for the afternoon and Miss Sunshine for the evening. Symbol Music has its head office in the Media Park in Hilversum.
